 51 Vic. Petition—Liquor Traffic. 357
PETITION.
To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Legislative Assembly of British
Columbia in Session assembled:
The humble Petition of the undersigned Presbytery of Columbia, Sheweth:—
That whereas the Presbytery of Columbia, now convened in this city, are aware that a
Bill is at present under consideration before your Honourable House revising the laws relating
to the liquor traffic; and whereas your Petitioners are in sympathy with all efforts in the
direction of the restriction of a traffic which has ever proved the greatest hindrance to the
progress of religion and morality in our cities and districts. They humbly pray that your
Honourable House will be pleased to pass a measure providing—
1st. The closing of all places for the sale of intoxicating liquors from midnight until six
o'clock in the morning on all week-days, and during the whole of Sundays.
2nd. That the maximum number of licences to be issued be fixed, so as to be fewer than
at present, in proportion to the population.
3rd. That efficient machinery be provided for enforcing such regulations as may be enacted.
And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
Signed on behalf of the Presbytery.
Donald Fraser, Moderator,
Thomas G. Thomson, Clerk.
Victoria, B. C, March 8th, 1888.
