RETURN
To an Order of the House for a Return of all the papers and correspondence
between the Government and Messrs. E. B. McNamee & Co., or any person
in behalf of either, relating to the cancellation of the Contract for the
construction of the Graving Dock at Esquimalt, on the 27th June, 1882.

Sir,—I have decided to take possession of the Esquimalt Graving Dock works, plant and
material, under the provision contained in the contract with Messrs F. B. McNamee & Co.,
with the intention of having construction immediately proceeded with, while the weather is
favourable.
You will be good enough to proceed to Esquimalt, and take formal possession of the
works, and make preparations for their expeditious completion, keeping me fully advised upon
the subject.

In consequence of delays in proceeding with Dock Contract, possession has been taken.

Gentlemen,—I have the honour to inform you that, owing to the stoppage of the works,
and your continued delay in construction of the Esquimalt Graving Dock, 1 have decided to
take formal possession of the works, under the terms of your contract, and to cause the same
to be immediately proceeded with.
Instructions have been given to Mr. Bennett, the Resident Engineer, to assume possession
of the partially constructed works, and of the plant and material, an inventory of which will
will be taken as soon as possible, 356 Cancellation of Dock Conteact. 1884
In no event is it intended that you or your sureties shall be relieved of any of your
liabilities consequent upon your breach of contract.

to return the Bond, entered into by Messrs. Huntington & Nicholson, for the return of plans
(tracings) of Graving Dockj Esquimalt, which have been handed into this Department (per
Resident Engineer.)
