Washington, D. ('.. .'Inly *■„'.
1897.—The House concurred in
lho Sennle amendment appropriating §5,000 foi' Ihe removal
of obstructions in tho Kootenuy
River in Montana. This is lhe
lirst effort on the purl of either
the United Stales or Dominion
Government to assist iu making
the Kootenay navigable.
What is the Dominion Government going to do lo assist in
helping out Bast Koolonay by
improving the navigation of the
Kootenay on this side of the
line? This is a question that has
boon asked and it remains urn
answered. The member who
represents our interests in the
Dominion Parliament appears to
be a person of no account.. Ho
is apparently not able to do anything in obtaining the necessary
aid for developing our resources,
we might as well be unrepreson-.
ted for any good he has dono in
securing a decent postal service,
in obtaining telegraphic connection with the outside world, or
the improvement of the Koolonay River. We have bad to accomplish this ourselves, matters
whicli in every other country is
and ought to bo the lirst concern
of Government.
