BRITISH CROWN ^SURVEYOR FREE.
Washington June 26.- Minister Aidrade of Venezuela today received a telegram from his government
announeeing that British Crown Surveyor Harrison,
whose arrest has caused strained feelings between the two governments , has been released
; by order of the Venezuelan authorities.
Mr.Ardrade, the Venezuelan minister, called at the
state department today and handed Mr Olney a copy
of a telegram he had Just received from Mr.Ro.as,
the Venezuelan minister of foreign affairs, stating that Mr .Harrison. ,the crown surveyor of Brit
lsh Guiana, who with ids party had been plaoed
under arrest by^the Venezuelan officials had been
promptly released. The telegram, to Mr. Andrade'is
as follows:
It was yesterday when the national oommissary
of Cuyuni telegraphed the oocuranoe.Harrison and
19- more crossed on the left bank of the Cuyuni
to open a road. The sub-commissary at Aoarabesi
protested in writing. Harrison insisted, and the
sub-commissary took him to the post of Bldoradb.
As soon as the government was informed thereof it
ordered the release of Harrison and asked details
It is undoubtely true that the prompt action of
the Venezuelan government was in a measure due to
Mr.Olney's intercession through our minister at
Caraoas, and it is believed that the main issue
between Great Britain and Venezuela will be even
more, ea3y of settlement now.
