The North Star has also shown ' an appreciable inci-ea.se this year over that of l<)0:5. The coal' at Fording river is especially adaplod to coking. The mines are situated in n "district where the economic conditions are favorable to mining. The'year of UK.i-1 has been one of steady progress and development, in tho placer mines of the district,, and throughout the quartz camps a better feeling- prevails. In future campaigns the Liberals of Steele might, follow the precedent established by Conservatives in the recent election. The lesson of the election is that Conservatives can seldom win dis-united. If the Government practically disfranchised the electors of Kootenay. Conservatives should have put their shoulders to llic wheel and'pushed tlie harder. " A' wise counting will- never pardon a government that attempts to disfranchise ils electors. Conservatives who desert their party in times when a national policy is at stake, will be remembered by the faithful in the future. During the recent election at Steele, Grits simply stood passive, and let, their Conservative friends push the Liberal wagon along. , ;., ' There will be slight changes in the above list but not sufficient to change the result.
