The process has not yet come so extensively into use that, many have becDine acquainted wilh il. and ;i brief account of its inost important, features i , i may be oTnn to rest." Ih the first place the process is: intended to extract from the pulped ore whatever metalic val-' lies it may eonlain without, altering- itscharaeter. The"ores most amenable to t ho'process arc those * whose value-carrying materials , are sparsely distributed through .the rock, necessitating line crushing, and consequent sliming. By the ordinary water process tlie loss by sliming im working such ores is so groat as to render concentration impossible. This is1 particularly true of what is generally termed high-grade ores, which include gray-copper carrying silver, and the, many forms of iron and copper sulphides carrying gold. ;The loss in these ores'is due to their low specific, gravity,,o which allows the' values to be carried awav: info immediate value, and add greatly io the already big profits of the properties. r The persons most interested have- been experimenting' with the process on a small scale, aiid have met with such ,,satisfactory results that' a, plant of fifty Ions daily capacity is being installed. The result will be 'watched wilh much interest, as there arc a number of properties with vast quantities of ore carrying values just below the cost of smelting. The oil concentration process moans'to smelting- ores what cy- aniding does for froemilling. The conditions of the metal market, and the construction of the Kootenay Central Railway, will soon place a number of properties on tho shipping list. If till the mountains in tho world were leveled, the average height of the land would' rise nearly 2.">0 feet. ' ' It will not be many weeks now before active operations will be begun all along the line in Fort Steele and in every section of this splendid district. NEWS OP THE WORLD. Tho Rossland ores probably contain about thirty pounds of metal to ihe ton of ore. To melt this ton of roclc costs about -1. It is claimed by the inventors of the oil process of concentration that the values contained in a ton of rock can be recovered at a cost of not more than si. /Phc process i.s.just the opposite of the action of water as used iu concentration of lead ores.
