Paddy Quirk!" while in a reminescont mood relates a Christmas incident of thirty- eight years ago .that dopictsZthe conditions of those times". Much of tho. interest oT the 'story'is lost iu tho inability of type,to reproduce the narrators quaint brogue- Paddy says: "Thirty- oight veers agoo we had now1 thin to ate but oats, end we war that wake we caudent worrik: bul Oie hade a pretty good fade of oats in mo and Oie went clown to 'he creak with a shalh-kinfe and, (ills a pan, full of goald, but Oie was that wake Oie caudentcarry it to the house,' so Oie goes to the ' house' and gets anowther fade of oats end then goes, back- end brings in the goald. " Paddy has other things than oats to eat now. but he has not so much sold. samples of ore, and report that the vein improves as ihe tunnel is advanced. From Wm. Mryes is learned the following: "Since we have been at work we straightened the Jensen tunnel along the vein and con-, lihued Jt sixty feet. As progress was made along lhe vein flie mineralization became so extensive as to almost entirely displace the'quartz.' Nearly thirty feel will yet have to be run to reach the point directly under die ore-chute on fhe surface. Tho level at'' this point i.s only eighty-five feet below the surface and the showing and improvements are- considered remarkable I'or the distance. From tliis' poi'iiT,along"! hrTveiiriliereA are. several good outcrops of ore and the hill rises so rapidly that greater depth will be obtained lo the distance run. .Some in- foresting and important conditions 'have been developed. The rock along the line of the vein- on the surface is a hard hornblendic diorite, while * at depth the hornblende is almost entirely absent - and almost,, wholly magnesian, having very , much the appearance and character of serpentine. Copper values improve "as depth is gained and all the conditions dev, elop'd that were'expected." At the Hotels. - All the hotels had a special Christmas Bill-of-fare. which was patronized by many home folks. The management of the Imperial extended to the public lhe compliments of the season and the cheer of Christmas lide. The Steele house, under management of Mr. and Mrs. McNeish. made their friends feel at home and entertained an unusual number of people. A Chrislmas party of twelve were entertained at the residence or Mr. liichard Frasor Thursday evening.
