Harvey   of   Fori     Sleele,   received  hearty   support.     .The   Golden  Star   expresses    -the   following  opinion of Mr. Harvey:      "J. A.  Harvey,' lhe choice of the Golden  Conservatives,   has   not   as yet  signified his   willingness  to  become fhe Conservative candidate  of this district, but if he does he  will   make  the strongest, candidate   the   party   could'* secure.  Mr. Harvey is well and favorably  known throughout  the district.  A.s an attorney Mr.  Harvey   has  made a  brilliant record, and-is  recognized a.s one of the, brightest, men in,tho Province. Taylor:     Resolved, that this executive of the  Provincial   Mining   Association  of  British   Columbia urge  such  government as may be in   power  after   the    pending    provincial  elections,   to   formulate without  'delay,   a  policy for the opening  up and development, of  all   coal  lands, and further resolved, that  this   executive    suggests   that,  with   respect-  to- coal    lands   in  Southeast Kootenay. (not. affected by any  valid.' existing  legal  claim or right of any   person   or  company),   the. government   retain the title to all such, and develop (he coal measures   therein  contained,   by   a system of leasing  to  actual   operators:    such  leases to contain  stringent provisions for"fhe. proper equipment  development and continuous  operation; and for fhe full   protection of tlie British Columbia, consumers  of coke and coal, as to  supply and price, and furl her resolved,   that   the   policy   above  suggested be extended to all coal  and petroleum lands of the  province. ,      '  Tt was also resolved, that the  assessment act, should-be amended to make faxes- on crown  granted properly apportionable  and, no tax levied-prior to grant,  and that the1 water clauses' act.  should be amended to remove  ambiguities and conllict of jurisdiction now existing. A dam will be consti-ucfed at  the upper.canyon, and the'entire  flow of water converted into the  Hume.  -The company have secured  five miles, of placer ground on  Bull river, .and when fhe river  is turned v into the flume, the  river bed will be worked by  modern hydraulic mining ma-  c-hinery.  The new company besides using the wafer for placer mining,  will install a large electric  power plant, find will distribute  light, and power for the district.  They .have also commenced  lhe construction of a wagon road  from Chickamon 8tone road to  tho falls. I.Jalsey Clark, a Spokane mining experl, says that the Sullivan  mine is the greatest, silver-lead  mine that he has ever visited.  W. J. Tret her way and T. O.  Dan by visited tho mines situated  on the east fork- of Wild Horse  creek Wednesday.  About thirty men and six  teams are at' work building a  flume three miles in length at  Perry creek.  Mining affairs continue to  present a prosperous aspect in  the Port Steele district.  South Dakota men are preparing to enter into the work of turn-  ingBull river from its present bed  for its gold.
