that it has alienated public  symp-"

the boycott 'established there,  are
only'indications of public antipathy

found   in the   high' freight rates
imposed bn(intenor points that are
without competition  as compared

The C. P.  R.-'has  not 'tlie" public
spirit of the American'roads.    Its
head   officials^ in   some cases are
narrow and inclined to be tyrannical.    The company is j now  at the
parting of the ways whether it is to
retain the goodwill and support of
the people and parliaments of Canada, or whether other roads are to
wrench'from it  that  public goodwill and support on which  it has
thriven so w ell in past years.    We
should   like   to   see  the C. P. R.
receive fair   consideration   but  to
entitle it to that it will be necessary
for the great company   to adopt a
light about face policy  as  regards
its treatment  of   tl e  public   and
lis   support   of' jiublic    spirited
entei prises.     The man of the hour
for tbf'e C. P. R. is William ^Whyte.
He is the one man who can sway
the destinies of the great Canadian
road in the right direction if he  is
