Shannon, the well-known aesayer, of Ferguson, recently entered into a bond to acquire the Black Warrinr for $50,000 on behalf of C. W. JlcCrossan, of the Metropolitan Company. Men were set to work, but Mr. McCrossan repudiated his bond and Mr, Shannon had to pay up the men.out of his own pocket, with the intention ut bringing suit against Mr. McCrossan for the amount. The result of the work done on the property was to develop a pay- chute of three feet of ore, and Dr. D. A. Stewart and M. 13, Webber, of Winona, Minn., who had been operuting another property in the Lardeau, came to Revelstoke on Monday, accompanied by Mr. Shannon for the purpose of making an offer for the property, which be* Jongs to Tom Horn and H. N. Coursier. Accordingly, on Monday night, an agreement was entered into whereby Dr. Stewart and Mr. Webber should take a bond on the Black Warrior. " The amount oi the bond is ?fj0,000, on a working basipj and Messrs, Cutu'sier and Horn retain an interest in the, property. It is intended to put in a winter camp, and push development work. ' ' LIBERAL !"~ ASSOCIATION. A circular was read from' the Rossland Liberal Association suggesting that tho Provincial executive be requested to convene a convention and that the next provincial election be conducted on party lines. The meeting endorsed the' circular, urging that the convention be held at Revelstoke as the most central'point. On motion of II; Cook,'Pccondcd hy J. HAGGEN,t M. E.J Much has been heard of the Big ,Uend and much is expected of it", The development of this section of country has long been recognized as the backbone of' Revelstoke. Sometimes the question has* been asked " Is the Big Bend al! that is said of it "? Again the query has been put, (i Will Revelstoke derive the benefit that has,so confidently been expected from tho opening up of the Big Bend"?1 Aim mm: TiiLVGi? tri;k7 - The answers to these questions are of paramount importance to all who are interested in the city and the'surrounding district. It was "with' a view to ascertaining tlio facts regarding this little known and much,, belauded country that tho writer spent four'weelis of the past season in travelling through ltu valloyK mid over its mountains, A l-'INB THI I'. , In ,fine weather a trip over tho Big Bend trail is one of the rem!n- isences of a lifetime. Following lhe courfc of one of the'finest of American rivers for a distance of . ,. , , ,* . ,.- sixty miles; which is as far as tho sionalboallond lieingshippecUipthe trail now, goes, the traveller passes''nver> hn}... generally by , the pack thfbugh an immense area of magni- fact that the river was successfully navigated many years ago. there should now be any serious difficulties in the way of'navigation that the * knocker'whispers in your ear when you ask for information. Rather, the almost uninterrupted view of the river, gives one the impression of a magnificent waterway, which, with some improvement of tlie channel, can be made one of the finest1 navigable rivers in the province. , ' TltA.VSl-ORTATIO.w" A fairly good wagon road has now been built to the head nf Nine Mile Riffle, so that, in the event of excessively low or very high water enuring cliffieultyof navigation in tho canon or at the riffle, communication can still' bo maintained above those points. - ' The placing of a steamer on the river will supply the country tributary, to the river for sixty miles at least with' an excellent means of' transportation. Tho requirements of the country have so far been served bv an occa- cent timber lands-and the day is not, far distant when'these forests will resound with the axe of the lumberman from . Revelstoke to' Canoe river. The new-'camp'put in. nt Ciirnes Creek .by' the Revelstoke 'Ltunber Company is but the forerunner of many others. 'i'OrOOtfAt'itYb, Along the trail an occassional patch of ground, which will some clay make good ranching land when the timber is cleared off, is met with, and the ranches tint sparsely dot the valley are already wry successful, For sixteen miles north of Revelstoke tlie mountains crowd into the valley, and there* is no. land of value till Lnformc Creek is reached. Tho timber has'been devastated by- fire for some miles over that section of the/trail, and with the exception of the Fred Robinson Co.'s holdings there is no timber there of value, "At Eight-mile a Mr. Wilson has taken up mi area for a ranch, timber and bwnsitci At Nimwiiik' is the fatnoliB ' ' . As the Dominion government have had tt survey made of the lands .within the railway beltj and lying0sotith of Games Creek-,cit is now an, easy matter for intending settlers to select and'-"define their sections in the area. - DllTIcri/riKS OF TI! A VEI.UNO. A great draw-back to exploration ih the Big Bend is the scarcity of feed for horses, the dense timber growth'having shut out the patches of grass so often met with on mountain trails, The packers.'get over the difficulty by packing ieed to different points on the routean expensive and troublesome process. The first place where the traveller can depend ' on getting feed for his ho.ve is at W.^Whitmore's stopping place at Games Creek, 28 miles by< trail from Revelstoke, After that, the feeding stages .itre more convenient, namely 'Boyd's ranch, lii miles further on", Geo.' BOARD OF TRADE. Meeting of Council. A meeting of the Coui,:il of the Board of Trade was held yesterday, when there were present:Cap;, Taylor, and Messrs. Shaw. Sibbal(,! Brewster and Hnggen. A letter was read from the" C. V, H. stating that in' regard to the rcpresuitiiiions made on behalf of Craigelachie settlers., a station and siding would be put in as required next spring,' The question of river improvement was discussed and it was resolved to write the'Minister of Public .Works and Mr." Galliher, M. P. urging that provision be made at next session of Commons for improvement of the upper river for navigation now that a steamer its about to be put on there. The secretary was instructed to obtain a copy of Mr. Gamble's report. , with reference to the article in the Kootenay Mail regarding the establishment of u sawmill at .N'orthport to cut Big Bend logs'it was resolved to communicate with- the C.
