U*'. Laurier, has been called traitor before by men of his own race when he settled the Manitoba school question that a cowardly conservative party created by coercive int'erfer-eme. He carried Quebec, ntv- erl.heless,'in spite of all iiilitnid.itioi s and he will cany it again on loyalty to the British flag and - Canadian unity against all attempts'to arouse racial aiiniinosity. It has been said in the Herald that when; the Boers ate beaten that, a Dominion modelled on our own will be (-.tablished in South Africa. .There the, Boers will be, in a sense, counter-, n*iparts of our French-Canadian cili-' /.ens and equal rights with our own people given then), ti listing to Iheni '(liwthe^juViice of British institutions, fair play "of its people, and democracy of its sentiment to, make them loyal subjects. ' Let there he no more attempts lo excite ' racial feeling in Canada, but present a better mold for-our'new South'African pos- s-ssion, soon to be part of our glorious empire. 'In conclusion I must brivrly show what miserable tactics the Herald uses to make a point. It started its abuse; of Sir Wilfrid Laurier on the strength of a clipping from La Pr-esse, which it attributed to Hon. Mr. Tarte. La Presse has nothing to do with either of these gentlemen, is not. their-prop- erlyand is not controlled by them. Aagain! Take the woi*iJ "Australian colonies" as used by the Herald, put t'leui in .conjunction with its editorial of'even' dale: "Yesterday morning the citizens of Revelstoke took pait in an event unique in the history of the. The event of > sending Lroops as n body to tight outside its own borders, is as the Herald savs, in an aside, "unique" in our history and it had to be carefully considered.
