no other human being was ever known

during the long and stormy season that
followed. Nobody at.itookford thought
.-.nyfliing about his absence, as he never

A Gold Mine Instead of a Grave.
"Some of the richest", gold mines hi
Colorado were stumbled upo.i in ihe

" When the gold fever was ;it its height
several years .ago, a party of prospectors travelling through thip mountains
came upon the dead body of a man lying beside the trail. ' Poor fellow,' said
one of them, ' he has passed in his
checks; let's give him decent, burial.'
They accordingly began to dig a grave.
Three feet below, the surface they discovered signs of cgold., The stranger
was buried in another place, and wbci'e
they had located a grave a gold mine
was opened up which' turned out. to be.
one of the richest claims in that section
of the country. The mine was named
