To'the Editor: Sir,Your last issue of July 12th has a letter signed T. 0. McMana- mon, organizer, of >. of R. T., of A., 'dated July 9th. It is not expected that I should in any way follow Mr. McManamon in his personalities,'nor shall I reproach him with it, since it is part of his. duties, as "he'Understands them, and for which he draws pay. 'lhe points of his letter _ which., 1 cannot allow to' go unchallenged are as follows: 'It is reported of Mr. I)u- chesnay that he said the committee was, composed of the most ignorant'men he had ever met; that' when trying to talk " business to them in Montreal they, just grabbed their huts and left the olliee. "'This happened, but not until Mi'. Spencer, a past master in prevarication when dealing with committee?, lost his head and' told Chairman - Lenncn that "'the d sectionnien did not have sand enough to strike,' and cMr. Duchcsnay remarked that the watchmen whom they represented were not trackmen but ''a gang of old cripples who' could not get employment at any other class of work.' Nice words of praise for men who havo imperilled life and limb dtrrinE -0 years of faithful service.' I again repeat- exactly what" I already often said: '"Thecommittee was composed of the most Unreasonable and ill-advised men .that I ever met. Thev positive!v refused to discuss rates, with usthe mo- ii ment the manager himself endeavored to do so they grabbed their hats nnd walked out." This I said aiid structures west of Kamloops is equally satisfactory. There arc today w.orkirig on'the Thompson and Cr.scade'seclions 22(3 mc-ii( exclusive of track watchmen. ElJM. J. LETTER FROM, ORGANIZER MCMANAMON 'EDITOR KOOTENAY MAIL:" Sir,I wish to use your valuable paper as a means of- placing before th'b reading public some facts "regarding the trackmens strike: Now. sir, I left Revelstoke on the TOth inst, and paid a flying visit to tlie following points: Nelson, Cran- brook, Michel, Medicine Hat, Calgary, Field, ami on io 'Revelstoke. Ry,reading, the Free Press, Tribune, Province, News-Advertiser, Herald and a host of other papers a man could casiiv persuade himself that tho strike'was a thing of. the past. This reminds me of an incident that' ocurred in Vancouver.- D. Creed was superintending tlie blasl- ing;and removal of a rock in the harbor, close to the wharves, and every evening there was a paragraph in the local sheet concerning his headway. One day the superintendent, accompanied by a couple of reporters, came along and said '''How are you getting on with the rock, Denny':" the answer wil? /''It's down there, 12 feet, under waltir, but if you don't stop these d-- reporters they will have it means, also gave instructions lo have law strictly enforced at all points of entrance. Their nasal organs as .well as their eyesightought to be properly inspected before these government hangers-on receive their positions. Now, what is to become'.of these men when this dispute is settled? T.1 e reports proved to some extent exaggerated, but still Magistrate Sil> bald's 'investigation of the'affair made one of the most- sensational scenes that have occurred, in the police court, ; It appears that two men had come to the city who had together served sentences in the . SALEM I'EN'ITEN'TIARY. One named Hamilton, "alias Johnston, has been working^in thc C. P. R. pay-day, y l-'iUE.NDS OH EN'EMIE:-.. Whether-nho men had been, friends or enemies is also difficult to determine as each told a diff. j- ent story. It is enough to know that they had.,-'been a^-oeiateu a - gether, that they met each other in' ' Revelstoke, that they discussed matters that might have resulted in the development .of a sensational crime in the city, that they had- perhaps bigger game on foo't and 'may havo quarclled over their, plans. 'Ibis recalls, the fact that Sylvester claimed ' (hero were three men in the affair, Coincident with ' this is tho fact that on Tuesday night*the night on winch the piu is allegedthree men were seen iu the vicinity of tho Imperial Rank after midnight and disappeared oh hearing some puasyrs by coming. Their movements at the time attracted suspicion. THEY HAD QUAKELLKll evidently over something and Sylvester perhaps, too'; this means"of having revenge on his erstwhile prison companion. The exposure of the affair came off at the police court yesterday before Police Magistrate Sibbald, Mr. MeCarter appearing for ihe Crown and Mr. Scott for two accused, Hamilton and Cotton, who were charged with conspiring to rob Hume's store. As the only evidence to connect Cotton wilh thV affair was Sylvester's statement that Hamilton had told him that Cotton was in it, and as Hamilton denied this, there was no evidence whatever against Cotton, who is an employe at the C. P. R. shops and he was. discharged on Mr. McCa; ter's application. SVLVK-TKlt's STORY in court was as follows : " Arrived here .Monday.
