May For Want of Better Transportation Facilities Shut Down.
Serious news comes from Windermere, where it is proposed lo close
down the Paradise, the only shipping mine in Northeast Kootenay.
The Paradise has mined and
shipped over 1000 tons -of sand
carbonates, but owing to the cost, of
transportation the shipments have
been made at a loss. S. S. Fowler,'
M.E., consulting engineer of the
property and R. R. Rrtice. the
manager, Pay that if the ' government will build a road for eight
miles it wilL.reduce 'transportation

VULCAN SMELTER.
Blown in at Ferguson-r/t Proves a
Great Success.
On Tuesday H. Hubble, who arrived from San Francisco last week
for the purpose, blew in (lie 30 ton
Vulcan Smelter belonging to the
McCrossan companies at Ferguson.
The event was watched with much,
interest on account ,of the doubts
expressed'as to the .efficiency of the
smelter. II. N. Coursier, who
attended the ceremony, informs us
that these doubts were dispelled by
the working of the smelter, which
gave a clean slag, and appeared to
do its work thoroughly: Mr.
Coursier brought back some bullion
with him. If' is intended to run
the smelter continuously on Triune

owners expect to'instal 100 ton
