'  PRINCE RUPERT DRYDOCK  Drydock, Prince Rupert, B. C.���������Good  progress is being made on the Grand  Trunk Drydock that has been under  const, for some time.. When completed  the dock will be able to handle the  largest vessels on the Pacific Coast  and  will  cost about  $3,000,000.  The dock will have in all twelve  pontoons, and the first of these was  launched last week. It is 130 feet long  and exclusive of other fittings has  300,000 feet of timber in its construction. A second pontoon is to be  launched on the 22nd inst., and six  pontoons will be completed by .January  1. The capacity displacement ot the  Series will be 20,000 tons, and each  pontoon will have two powerful centrifugal pumps. Works, Saanich���������Tho recount on the Saanich School By-law  made necessary by the ��������� number of  spoiled and unmarked ballots, was  made this morning by the returning  officer and showed that the by-law  was defeated by only two votes. The  by-law was to authorize the municipality to raise the sum of $50,000 to  enable them to erect a brick school  bldg. at the corner of Tillicum and  Gorge Rds. It is possible that a  temporary school will be built in this  district until another by-law can be  submitted.  The other by-laws passed will be  given a final reading by the council  and the Reeve will endeavor to get  in touch with the eastern brokers as  soon as possible to secure the necessary money to carry out the contemplated improvements.  MAY AWARD CONTRACT SOON  FOR FORT GEORGE BREWERY  ��������� Breweryi^-Fort^George^D^C.���������-The  proposed brewery to be erected at  Fort George for the Peace River  Brewing & Halting Co.,* for which  Wilson & Wilson, 532- Granville St.  completed the plans for some time  ago, is delayed at present owing to  the   financial  situation.  Tenders   closed    about two  months  and it was stated by a member of the  ! company that it is the intentions of  the firm to have the bldg. completed  iin the early spring.    The est. cost of  the brewery will be about $70,000.  PRINCE  RUPERT   MAY  SELL MUNICIPAL BONDS*  Municipal Works, Prince Rupert,  B. C.��������� Mr. E. Flexman, formerly of  Prince Rupert, but now of Vancouver,  advised the Council at the last meeting that he is in touch with. a. firm of  London financiers who are in a position to hanale city bonds, and asked  that data be sent. The matter has  been referred to the finance commutes, "n  Suit Over School  School, Vancouver���������A suit against  the Vancouver Board of School Trustees has been started by W. S. Ramsay, heating contr. on the Dawson  school, which has been. completed for  some time. The claim i sfor $1������8S alleged to be due under his contract  dated Jan., 1913.  School, Burnaby ��������� At a meeting  scheduled for tomorrow night, the  Burnaby School Board will discuss  the possibility of preceding with the  proposed school, for which^ archt! J.  H. Bowman is now preparing plans  for.  The contemplated structure will  probably be two storeys in height oi  reinforced concrete, faced with brk.  and terra cotta. The bldg. will be  modern In every respect and will cost  approximately   $60,000.  WILL START. WORK SOON -   *     ���������_  ���������   ,'7 ON  NORTH  SHORE PLANT  "Shipbuilding Plant & Drydock, North  Vancouver���������Mr. Spratt,, managing di  rector of the Amalgamated -Engineering Co., of Victoria, who were recently  granted a subsidy by the Gbvt. for  their proposed shipbuilding plrint and  drydock to be erected at North Vancouver will leave for Ottawa in the  course of a few days to sign the name  of the company to the contract.  As the financing of the project was  completed in London before the Gov't  would grant the subsidy, there now  appears to be nothing to prevent the  const, of the plant in the near future.  When once started it isstated that  const, work will proceed uninterruptedly to the installation of the entire  plant. The estimated cost of the  project is approximately $5,500,000.  MINERS  WILL  ERECT  HALL BLDG. AT PHOENIX  Hall, Phoenix, B. C.���������At a meeting  cf^the^locar^unibn^df^miners^it^was  inanimously decided to proceed with  the erection of a hall to replace the  one destroyed by fire a short time  ago.   . . C.���������The Library Committee submitted a report  dealing with the question of a' $50,000  Carnegie grant for a public library in  Nanaimo, the report being received  and filed and the Joint Council and  Board Committee requested to bring  the matter of a public library before  the city council with the request that  the Council submit a bylaw to the  ate-payers.  Canal, Port Townsend, Wn.���������Plans  have been completed by the U. S. engineers, Burke Bldg.,- Seattle, for the  proposed 4,800 ft. canal to connect  Oak Bay. and Port Townsend Bay and  tenders will be received until October  16th. Power Plant, Edmonton���������-Messrs.  Sanderson & Porter, of> New York, financiers and builders of hydro electric  plants recently, made a proposal to  the city of Edmonton to furnish the  city with electric power. The proprosed  plant would be erected at Moose River,  B. C, in the Yellowstone Pass of the  Rockies. Its minimum capacity would  be 300,000,000 K.W.H. transmitted by  cable to Edmonton.
