The Vain of
Spare Moments
From every section, and from all sorts and conditions of men
messages come to tell of earnings increased and futures" brightened
through study of I. C. S. Courses during spare time.
One letter gives the romance of" a young man in California that
began with little or no education; another tells the story of a high
schooj_graduatejn_Maine_that found himself educated for everything-
but to make a living. Here are the heart-trobs of a fellow that toiled
12 hours a day and studied his Course as best he could; of a foremen or superintendent that enrolled because his ambition aimed
at still bigger things.
No-matter where you live, how little spare time you have or
how brief your schooling, the I. C. S. can raise your salary. That
statement 1b backed with 20 years of success and a record of 400
or more advancement letters received every month.
I. C. S. Courses have made draftsmen, foremen, and superintendents of shop hands; building contractors, architects, structural
and concrete engineers of carpenters and masons; advertising men,
window trimmers, chemists, illustrators, and designers of clerks;
electrical, mechanical and steam engineers of laborers; mine inspectors, foremen,, and mining engineers of mine workers; bridge
engineers, surveyors and mappers, civil engineers, gas engineers,
automobile runners and civil.service employees of young men will-
ing to use their spare time to mold a career.
Suppose you were to increase your earnings only 520 a month
what a fine return that would be on.your spare-time investment!
Yet some have increased their earnings ?250 a month.
Mark and mail this coupon and you will receive free information how you can increase your earnings by spare-time study.

Tho piers, which arc part of the big development scheme of Victoria harbor, are to be known as Piers Two and Three and are between Rithet's wharf No. 2 and the breakwater. Tlie harbor scheme calls for two additional piers. One wlll.be next the break- I water and the fourth between Pier Three !and Rithet's wliarf.' The flrst plan's called for the construction this -/ear of Piers One and Two but owing to tho work now proceeding on the breakwater it was afraid it 'might interfere with construction there, so it vvas decided to build Piers Two and Three. The two niers will have four slips hroe being eight "hundred feet long; and one a thousand feet. The piers are 250 feet' wide and each slip has a width of 300 feet. Tlie specifications call for reinforced concrete work throughout so that the piers will be thoughly modern in every respect. The arrangement will .be as follows: On the east the breakwater, then a space that will be left vacant until that great work has been completed; then will come a pier, then a slip 300 feet wide; then another pier and then a vacant space where a fourth pier will be built. The two piers now to be built will give 3,400 feet of dockage and^ this will be'at least doubled when the 'others are built, so that the present plan provides in all for a mile and 1,500 'feet, approximately, of dockage.
