RECOMMEND   LOCATION   OF  DOMINION   GOV'T WHARVES  Wharves, South Vancouver ��������� At a  meeting of the council it was decided  to recommend to the Dominion Government that the proposed wharves  which are to be erected on the North  Arm of the Praser river to facilitate  the first part of the year owing to the ,the h.andlinS of Produce in that vicinity  financial  situation.  The proposed fireproof gynfnasium  to be erected at the King Edward  high school will also be laid over  until the coming year and at present  but one man is working on the job.  The plans have been completed for  some time and the estimated cost of  the work is approximately  $50,000,  be erected at, the foot of Kerr, McRae  and Main Sts. The city will proceeed to move the  present old bridge a little further up  stream until the new bridge is com  pleted. C���������The Library Committee submitted 'a report  dealing?.with the question of a $50,000  "Canfegie~gl;anF7for aTliublic library in  Nanaimo, the report being 0 received  and. filed and the Joint Council and  Board Committee, requested to bring  the matter of a public library ��������� before  the city council with the request that  the Council submit a bylaw to the  ate-payers.  Canal, Port Townsend, Wn.���������Plans  have been completed by the U. S. engineers, Burke Bldg., Seattle, for the  proposed 4,800 ft. canal to connect  Oak Bay and Port Townsend Bay and  tenders will be received until October  16th.  The project also calls for two jetties, each 600 feet long, of creosoted  piling, brush and stone.  There   will   be  a  2,000   foot  bulk-  VANCOUVER  CIVIC  CENTRE,  1914.  The Committee appointed by His  Worship Mayor Baxter/ invite competitive designs for the" development  of the proposed Civic Centre. Premiums amounting to $500.00 and  $250.00 will be awarded to tbe designs  placed first and second respectively.  The award will be made by independent experts whose decision shall be  final. All designs**must be delivered  not later than November 30th, 1914. Sanderson' & Porter, of New York, financiers and builders of hydro electric  plants recently, made a proposal to  the city of Edmonton to furnish the  city with electric power. The proprosed  plant would be erected at Moose River,  B. C in the Yellowstone Pass of the  Rockies. Its minimum capacity would  be 300,000,000 K.W.H. transmitted by  cable - to Edmonton. The estimated  cost bf the project is $3,500,000.  Conc.
