Piers," Victoria���������It is announced from  Ottawa that the Dominion government  has extended the date for receiving contract tenders on the two proposed govt.  Victoria piers until Jan. 8.  Tenders were to have been closed at  Ottawa at 4 p.m. on Dec. 9. The authorities ga\e another month to figure  on the work, at the request of a large  number of firms which wished to tender  but wanted more time to go into the  various details.  The two piers, const, details of which  have appeared previously in the Building Record, will be of reinf. concrete,  with a solid fill, embracing four slips,  to cost about $750,000 each. Bldg*s., Ottawa���������The commission  of architects appointed by the government to direct the preparations of designs for fhe new departmental buildings at Ottawa has just submitted it������-  report outlining the conditions of the  competition.   " 7,  It will be open to competitors throughout the British Empire. There will be  at least two buildings and probably a  third one for'the courts. Half a million  superficial feet of floor space will have  to be provided.  Designs of a general character will  first be submitted and from this number  the best six will be selected and the authors of these will be' asked to elaborate  their designs. The one finally selecced  will get the job of superintending the  work based on his plans and will be  given a five per cent commission. The  cost of the buildings will probably aggregate five million dollars.  The other five competitors who will  be asked to develop their general designs  will each receive. $3,000." The sketches  will be, received up to 'April 2 next.  Then three months will be given for the  best half dozen to develop their plans.'  The competitors whose pl'aris are accepted will be' given a further period of  four months to prepare working plans.  Afterward tenders will be called' for,  but, in view of the time allowance, this  will  not  be  before  next autumn.'  The cost of the building will aggregate $5,000,000 dollars. The other five  competitors will be asked to develop  their general designs and each will receive $3,000. The sketches will be 'received up to January 2, next.
