Bldgs., Ottawa���������The commission of architects appointed by the government to direct the preparations of designs for the new departmental buildings at Ottawa has Just submitted Its report outlining the conditions of the competition. It will be open to competitors throughout the British Empire. There will be at least two buildings and probably a third one for the courts. Half a million superficial feet of floor space will have to be provided. Designs of a general character will first be submitted and from this number the best six will be selected and the authors of these will be asked to elaborate their designs. The one finally selected will get the Job of superintending the work based on his plans and will be given a five per cent commission. The cost of the buildings will probably aggregate five million dollars. The other five competitors who will be asked to develop their general designs will each receive $3,000. The sketches will be received up to April 2 next. Then three mont'.is will be given for the best half dozen co develop their plans. The competitors whose plans are accepted will t*a given a further period of four month * to prepare working plans.
