McLean, a well-known  practitioner of Kdmonton, Alberta, intends to move to Victoria to" live, and  that he is now having plans prepared  for a handsome and substantial residence to be erected in the Uplands  District of the Island capital.  The name of the archt. and bldg.  details are not yet known.  The Provincial Public Works Department is now erecting a handsome residence in the Uplands, Victoria, for  the Lieutenant-Governor, the Hon. T.  W. Patterson!  Dykes, Sea Island���������The contract for  constructing the dykes and flood boxes  'for the reclamation scheme for Sea  Island has been awarded by the municipal council at Cambie to J. W. Nickson $27,961.52  Schact Company $35,487.11  There were four tenders for the proposed dyking scheme on Lulu Island,  but these figures will not be made  public as the municipal council has  rejected all bids and decided to undertake the work themselves by day labor.  While no exact data is available, it  is estimated that the work will run in  cost from $10,000 to $15,000. INTERNATIONAL   COMPETITION  Melbourne, June 30. 1914���������The Australian government announces an international architectural competition  for the purpose of selecting the architect of the' Parliament House and possibly incidentally' additional architect  for othergovernment structures of the  ���������Dew Federal Capital City, Canberra.  Only tentative outline sketch designs' for the building are requested,  and eight (8) prizes are offered aggregating ������6000, the first being ������2000,  in addition to commission for service  at the scale of the Royal Institute of  British Architects.  -Designs may be submitted in either  Melbourne or London before March 31,  1915, and wil be judged by the following jury of architects:  George T. Poole of Australia.  John J. Burnet of London.  Victor Laloux of Paris.  Otto Wagner of Vienna.  Loiiis'E. Sullivan of Chicago. Sanderson & Porter, of New York, financiers and builders of hydro electric  plants recently, made a proposal to  the city of Edmonton to furnish the  city with electric power. The proprosed  plant would be erected at Moose River,  B. C., in the Yellowstone Pass of the  Rockies. Its minimum capacity would  be 300,000,000 K.W.H. transmitted by  cable to Edmonton.
