Keith, 416 Sayward  bldg., the Victoria school board is  receiving proposals for the erection of  a school bldg. at Beacon Hill, in that  city. Proposals close on Feb. 23, at  4 p.m.  'Plans and specif, for this bldg. can  be seen at Mr. Keith's office.  The board decided also to invite  tenders for the erection of the Hollywood school, tenders to be in by Feb.  23,"but the official "ad" inviting the  proposals for this structure lias not!  yet appeared in the daily papers.  Tenders were taken on both these  school  bldgs.  last  year,  but  no  con-'  tract was awarded, as the board had.  no   building   funds   available   at   the  time. |  The net amount at the disposal of'  the board now for this purpose is only $51,000, according to report, so it  is possible that only one of the bldgs.!  will actually go ahead at this time.      I  Plans are   completed for the Mar-,  garet  Jeuking   school,   but   it js_not/  likely tenders will be invited now.  School   Supplies  Bids for a quantity of articles such  as chalk, pai.er, pens, lead pencils,  erasers, etc., were reported upon by'  the finance committee, and the contracts ordered prepared. The finance  committee also recommended the purchase of 300 desks for the new high  school at $5.95 per desk, and asked  time for a further report on the purchase of chairs for tlie auditorium and  lecture room. Blag's., Ottawa���������Tne commission  of architects appointed by the government to direct the preparations of designs for tlie new departmental buildings at Ottawa has just submitted its  report outlining the conditions of the  competition.  It will be open to competitors throughout the British Empire. There will be  at least two buildings and probably a  third one for the courts. Half a million  superficial feet of floor space wtll have  to be provided.   ���������  Designs of a general cliaracter will  flrst be submitted and from this number  the best six will be selected and the authors of these will be asked to elaborate  their designs. The one finally selocced  will get_/the job of superintending the  work baaed on his plans and will be  given a' five per cent commission. The  cost of the buildings will probably aggregate five million dollars.  The other five competitors who will  be asked to develop their general designs  will each receive "3,000. The sketches  will be received up to April 2, next.
