STEEL BRIDGE COLLAPSES
NELSON—The steel bridge'at Lemon Creek, on the Canadian Pacific Nel-
son-Slocan line, has collapsed. . The
Slocan line will be tied up most of
this week, jriie Kaslo and Slocan railway still is inoperative owing to numerous washouts at various points on
the line.

TO ERECT SCHOOL.
ROSSLAND—Although Rossland has
$50,000 available for a new school it
finds this is not sufficient to erect a
brick structure of the size required, so
it has been decided to proceed with
the building of a frame school.
PORT COQUITLAM—The city council has awarded the contract for graveling, grading and ditching a considerable portion of Mary Hill road to J. B.
Wilson.
VICTORIA.—Roof fires have occurred at 1615 Richmond Avenue, 105
Foit Street,'and 1170 Yates Street.

At the meeting of the park board
this week, the herd adopted the revision of the park estimates brought
in by the finance committee and revised so that they come within the
$40,000 appropriation for park purposes in-l!)lG voted'by'.the city.council.
The B. C. Electric railway company
has decided to remove the" opaque
paint and other obstructions to a clear
view in the front of the company's
tram cars.
The directors of the Angling, club
made an inspection of the club's new
rooms at the Loo building last evening ancl decided on the buying of fur*,
niture.
Toilets will he installed at the
Brockton Point grounds at a cost of
?500.
NORTH VANCOUVER.—The city
council has accepted the tender of W.
B. McFarland & Co. for employers'
and public insurance in connection
with the city ferries. . The price was
40 cents on the ?100 on the former,
and 45 cents per S100 on the latter.

Is a  subsidy for the Ladner-Woodward ferry.  The vote of $100,000 on last year's  estimates for the Second Nurrows bridge  Is left off.
