NEW WESTMINSTER — Contracts  for over $.00,000 worth of auxiliary  machinery for tlie imperial munitions  board steamers have been let to local  machine shops.- It is expected that  the shops here will get more in the  near future, , so that they will have  their full quota along with the plants  of Vancouver and Victoria. The contracts as already awarded call for the  making of 25 winches, let to Webb &  Gifford; another, for 20 steering engines will be supplied by the Schaake  machine works. The first allotment,  made to the Heaps EngineeringPcompany, has been turned down, but it is  understood that this plant will shortly be busy on some other work of a  similar nature. The imperial munitions board has not yet come to any  definite decision as to the main engines  for these vessels. It is possible that  some of the plants here may get a  portion of the work of constructing  thc engines.  Lii.  .LI..  and go back by Prince Rupert to his  headquarters at Hazelton.  This, map will be of great value to  mining operators, covering the Rocher  de Iloule and other important properties around Hazelton, upon which there  is .great mining activity. The field  partyis in-charge of J.J. O'Neill, who  was geologist with the Southern party  in the Steffanson expedition.  lie states that his time has been occupied, in conjunction with the district  engineer, Mr. Carruthers, in inspecting  applications for roads and trails rendered possible under the legislation of  last session, showing that important  development work in mining is contemplated all along the lino of the  Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. Two  important roads opening up mining  properties are now receiving attention,  south along the Telka River, and continuing along its south fork, and north  into the Cronin properties in the ,Ba-  bine Range.
