Present conditions have-also necessitated more.and larger hospitals, the result being an unusually large increase far hospitals and" charities. Last year $16,000 was Voted in the way of assistance in the construction of hospitals. This year, about $150,000 will probably be granted for that purpose. Grants to refuge homes,- aid societies, etc, is increased from $19,000 to $SC,000, * -University of B, C. Among the appropriations in this year's estimates is a conditional one of $200,000 for the University of British Columbia. Last year's estimate was $175,000. Included in the works and buildings to be constructed by the Public Works Department are the following; Okalla prison farm, $15,000; improvement of government reserve, Burnaby, $10,000; mental hospital and colony farm, Essondale, ?35,000; .provincial government buildings, London (completion and maintenance), %\ 75,000; maintenance, $S,000. The appropriations provincial normal school, Vancouver, for roads, streets, bridges and wharves in each constituency arc the same us last year. - Chilliwack gets $33,300; Delta, ?22,F>00; Uewdney, £GS,500, and Richmond 510,000. As the official publication for the Architectural Institute of B.C., the B.C. Builders’ Exchange, and the Building and Construction Industries’ Exchange of B.C., the Record primarily covered news related to building, contracting, engineering, real estate, and industrial finance. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
