Hockley of the Davie Vulcanizing Co., (i-'{fi Davie Street, his experience has been that many car owners in order to Have a hundred miles on their old tires lose a thousand or more miles which might be possible if the tire were re- treaded in time. •'Don't' be penny-wise and pound- foolish," is the advice given by Mr. Hock ley. "The rubber on your tires is for wear and the fabric for strength," he continues, "and it is far better economy to risk losing the last Hundred miles a tire might run than to take a chance of putting the carcass in such shape that a retread, if not entirely impossible, will not give the maximum mileage it. should. "The fabric wilt absolutely not stand wear, and a tire driven only a short distance on the fabric may be utterly ruined; therefore when treads begin to show signs of wear it %ays the owner to have the tire examined by an expert, as a tire retreaded in time is practically as good as a new tire and much cheaper per mile of service. '"This is as true of air tire repair work as it is of retreading, and the owner who has his tires carefully inP spected by an expert from time to time will be well repaid for his trouble in extra mileage." GETTING TO MARKET SOLVED BY TRACTOR When the price is right and you are ready, you can haul your crops to marr ket quickly with a tractor. If you need any lumber, fuel, tile, sand, cement, etc., haul tliem back with your tractor. It has the power to pull heavy loads over most any kind of roads. CORRODED BATTERY MAY CUT POWER In cases where there is a noticeable loss of power when the lights are turned on, it will usually be found that this condition is caused by corroded battery terminals or loose connections. The trouble may be cured by making sure that all terminals are tight and removing any corrision with emery cloth and , then applying a little lard' grease to the parts. ounces of glycerine and three ounces of water, shaken up in a bottle. If this liquid is applied to the hands before beginning work, a good washing with soap , and water afterwards removes all traces of the labor: Heat is the inevitable concomitant of friction. When the brakes have been too tightly adjusted, friction results and the unit becomes hot. It is a good plan to feel the brake drum after an adjustment has been made and the car run a while, for if the parts are too tight the heat present in the drum will indicate the trouble- If the motor fails to start after a generous amount of fuel has been supplied to it, the case may be one of too much gas, and the remedy is to open the petcocks and turn over the engine briskly with the ^compression cocks open. This allows the engine to draw in enough air to form an explosive mixture- ONE COMING HELPFUL HINTS. The discoyery that has made the TUNGAR'possible is really embraced-in the small bulb in which the process of changing the alternating current to;•-, direct current .-takes place. This bulb closely resembles an incandescent lamp. It is tilled .with an inert gas and contains a tungsten filament and an "anode." of graphite. P The "bulb "is mounted in a black japanned casing with a perforated top. This'.: casing contains a compensator which reduces the alternating voltage without using wasteful resistance, and also excites the filament in_ the bulb. In addition, the casing contains a fuse to protect against .the reversal of the battery and other overloads, v.- Canadian General Electric Co. ■;;•»•• .
