The mill is  ! now running two shifts, and grinds; ISO  i tons a day.'  j    Shipments of  magnetite  ore aggre-  j gating 1,500 tons have been made to  the Ladysmith smelter from the Tas-  oo mines on the west coast of, Queen  Charlotte Islands.  The Emerald at Salmo which has  shipped 3,000 tons of ore to Trail this  year, has recently bought 1500 acres  of timber, in order to get an adequate  supply for the mine.  The Slocan Lake Agricultural Association will feature at their forth-  [ coming fair, Sept. 25-26 at New Denver, a mineral exhibit or display of  {the ores of this district and else-  ' where.  D. A. MacKenzie and Walter Newton of Sandon, have acquired a lease  from the Ferguson Mines, Ltd., of the  Silver Cup mine, near Ferguson, and  have a small crew at work on the property.  R. H. Stewart, former general manager of the Consolidated Mining &  Smelting company, has been engaged  as consulting engineer for the Slocan  Star which is now earning $S,000  monthly.
