Among the appropriations in this - year's estimates is a conditional one of •200,000 for the University of British Columbia. Last year's estimate was $175,000. Included in the works and buildings to ho constructed by the Public^ Works Department aie the following; Okalla prison farm, $15,000; , Improvement of government reserve, , -,Bumaby, $10,000; mental hospital and colony farm, Eseondale, $35,000; provin- -oial government buildings. London (completion and maintenance), $175,000; maintenance, $8,000. The appropriations provincial normal school, Vancouver. for roads, streets, bridges and wharves in each constituency are the saint; us last year. Chilliwack gets $33,300; Delta, $22,500, Dewdney, $68,500, and Richmond $10,000. Eighty thousand is rovoted for King-sway through the Municipality of ' Burnaby. Point Grey gets $10,000 for loads, and NMcomen Tsland the same amount for dykinjr; $13,500 is a subsidy for the Ladner-Woodward ferry. The vote of $100,000 on last ycai's estimates for the Second Narrows bridge Is left off. For bridges gcneially $150,- 0O0 is set down, while for the bridge over the Fraser River at Prince George ttiere will be an appiopriation of $150,- 000. An item in the Land Department appropriations is that Toi $20,000 for "timber testing and investigation of wood pioducts." An indication that the .government intends to continue seeking overseas markets for the B. C. lumber trade is th.it another $50,000 is appropriated for. salaries, travelling expenses, and purchase of material. Other Appropriations. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
