WORLD RECORD IN WOODEN SHIPBUILDING AT ABERDEEN ABERDEEN, Wash.—Setting a new world's record for wooden ship hull construction, the "speed ship" Aberdeen is ready for launching, having been built in eighteen and one-halfs days. Hull and superstructure are 95 per cent, complete and machinery is 40 per cent, installed. The previous launching record was 41 days, set by ! a Portland yards some months ago. The former record ship was launched without decks- or superstructure and was not caulked above the water line. The Aberdeen will be delivered to the government complete within 30 days. The former record for completion was 97 days. The Aberdeen is painted and complete in every detail. She is a vessel of 4,000 tons, 290 feet in length and 49 feet beam. PORTLAND.—The government will not permit the Foundation Shipbuilding Company to accept any more contracts for ships for the French government, but will use the company's ton ways here and the twelve it controls on Paget Sound exclusively for vessels built for the Emergency Fleet Corporation. The local yards of the company have launched fifteen ships and have five on the ways at present. The remaining rive ways are idle, being held, presumably, for the arrival of plans for government boats. ELASTIGU The Tough, Elastic, Adhesive Cement (Ready) for use.) There is a patriotic necessity for all motor users to watch very care-, fully against wastage of gasoline. This wastage should be watched whether It be through uneconomical operation of the car or through the useless consumption of gasoline. Above all, watch against the loss of gasoline that should go into the running of your car. The fuel administration asks that you save gasoline in the following ways: Don't spill any. Don't permit leaks. Dont use for washing. Don't leave tanks or can open. Don't waste lubricating oil. Don't run engine while standing. There might be added: Don't use too rich a mixture and don't let brakes drag. What is the Final Truck ISN'T IT UPKEEP.—cost of operation, repairs and replacements—tires in- _" eluded—from year to year? WELL; THEN, if that is the case, what . justification is therefor a truck of no greater capacity and costing several hundred dollars more in the first instance, unless that truck can, after years of use, prove that its upkeep,is sufficiently less to offset the. difference in first cost? THAT IS THE THEORY on which most buyers act when they pay $1600 to $2000 for a truck rated at 1500 pounds normal load. HAVE YOU EVER investigated this matter to see if such trucks prove up on that basis? Well you ought. THERE ARE SOME SURPRISES in store for those who do so. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS we cannot publish figures — because business ethics forbid us to publish names of competitors. BUT ANY REO DEALER can-dhow you comparative data, kept by big concerns, of this 1500-pound Reo doing the same work, side by side with others of well known makes costing 50% to 100% more—and in every case the Reos show lower upkeep cost! SO, WHILE THE REO IS PAYING back, in efficiency and economy, its total first cost, the other isn't even making good on its-promise to pay . back the difference. Answer to this HOW CAN WE REO FOLKS make a truck of this quality and sell it at this price? .;..•'.. SUMMED UP IN A.<FEW WORDS it is this: The Reo product has been standardized for longer and it was the result of riper experience to begin with. ADD TO THAT our superior manufacturing facilities and our cash purchasing power and you have the reasons for our lower factory cost. AND THE OVER DEMAND which Reos always enjoy cuts our selling cost down to a percentage that is the marvel and the envy of the industry. ITS. ADAPTABILITY is practically limitless. CONTRACTORS, Coal dealers, Builders supply houses, Furniture dealers, Grocery, Fruits:— BUT WHY TRY TO ENUMERATE? There seems to be no limits to its adaptability. GASOLINE consumption is commonly reported by users as averaging 10 to 12 miles per gallon—depending on number of stops when motor is running, and using gasoline, but speedometer isn't recording. AND TIRE MILEAGE—due to the sturdy construction of the chassis and. wheels, (a flimsy car is hard on tires, you know) is also a revelation to owners. BECAUSE OF THE OVER DEMAND it is necessary that you order now if you'd have a reasonably early delivery. Today won't be a minute too soon. REO MOTOR CAR AGENCY, Limited 1378 GRANVILLE ST.
