Present conditions have also necessitated more and larger hospitals, the result being an unusually large increase

$16 000 was voted in the way of assistance in the construction of hospitals.

be granted for that purpose. Grants to
refuge homes, aid societies, etc, is increased froirfJ $19,000 to $80,000.
University of B,  C.
Among the appropriations in this
year's estimates is a conditional one of
$200,000 lor the University of British
Columbia. Last year's estimate was
$175,000. Include* in the. works and
buildings to be constructed by the Public Works Department aie the J olio w-
jng- Okalla prison farm, $15,000;
improvement of government reserve,
Burnaby, $10,000; mental hospital and
colony farm. Es.sondale. $35,000; provincial government buildings, London (completion and maintenance), $175,000,
maintenance, $8,000. The appropriations
provincial normal school, Vancouver,
for roads, streets, bridges and wharves
in each constituency are the same as
