C. Municipalities from fourteen cities and fourteen districts, representing SO per cent, of the total land and improvement assessments of the province, assembled in convention at Duncan, Wednesday. There were 61 accredited delegates to the convention with Reeve Bridgeman of North Vancouver presiding. The convention has telegraphed to Sir Robert Borden and Premier Brewster urging upon them the necessity of establishing steel works in British Columbia at once, in view of the development of the shipbuilding industry. Among other resolutions adopted were those calling for the right of wives of soldiers at the front to cast votes of their husbands in municipal elections, permission for the investment of trust funds in the debentures of British Columbia municipalities, holding of municipal elections a month earlier than at present, taking over by the government of the Tran- quille sanitarium and the operation of it as a provincial institution for tuberculosis patients. This is about the same as reported for July, when the company was replaced on'an earning basis. The pulp plants on the coast are creating a demand for industrial minerals, as magnesite, pyrites, talc, dolomite and soda. Sealed tenders superscribed "Tender for Drainage at Girls' Industrial School, Vancouver," will be received by the honorable the minister of public works up to 12 o'clock noon of Friday, the 26th day of.October, 1917, for the erection and completion of a system of drainage to the Girls' Industrial School Cassiar St., Vancouver, B. C. Plans, specifications, contract and forms of tender may be seen on and after the 7th day of October, 1917, at the office of J. Mahoney, Esq., government agent, Court House, Vancouver, or the department of public works, Victoria, B.C. . Intending tenderers can obtain one copy of plans and specifications by applying to the undersigned with a deposit of ten dollars ($10), which will be refunded on their return in good order. Each proposal must be accompanied by an accepted bank cheque on a chartered bank of Canada, made payable to the honorable the minister of public works, for a sum equal to 20 per cent, of tender, which shall be forfeited if the party tendering decline to enter into contract when called upon to do so, or if he fails to complete the work contracted for. The cheques of unsuccessful tenderers will be returned to them upon the execution of the contract.
