An item in the Land Department appropriations is that for $20,000 for "timber testing and Investigation of wood products." An Indication that the government intends to continue seeking overseas markets for the B. C. lumber trade is that another $60,000 is appropriated for salaries, travelling expenses, and purchase of material. Other Appropriations. The Spanish group at Alice Arm has been* bonded by men connected with Granby, the price being $100,- 000. The values are principally silver. There are 2.*>0 men on the payroll of the B. C. Copper Co. at Copper Mountain and about 60 men at the Princeton colliery. This gives a payroll from over 300 miners amounting approximately to $30,000 monthly. ) Approximately 200 tons of ore have been shipped from the Pathfinder mine on the North Fork of Kettle river to Greenwood smelter. The first car netted about $100, but the returns from the next three cars dropped to nearly half this amount. Between 25 and 35 tons of ore are being produced daily at the Jackson Basin zinc mines.
