The ore averages over two per cent, molybdenum, and the metal is worth ?1 a pound. The oil notation mill to be built near Penticton by the Canada Copper Company, will cost nearly $2,000,000 and will be finished in a year. It is estimated that the assured ore measures 10,000,000 tons. On a 23% cent copper market, with a working cost of 9%,cents per pound, these reserves Lave a net value of $58,000,000. Dr. W. H. Grants to refuge homes, aid societies, etc, is increased from $19,000 to $8(,000. University of B. C. Among the .appropriations in this rear's estimates is a conditional one of 200,000 for the University of British Columbia. Last year's estimate was $175,000. Included in the works and buildings to be constructed*by the Public Works Department are the following; Okalla prison farm, $15,000; Improvement of government reserve, Burnaby, $10,000; mental hospital and colony farm, Essondale, $35,000; provincial government buildings, London (completion and maintenance), $175,000; maintenance, $8,000. The appropriations Srovlncial normal school, Vancouver, or roads, streets, bridges and wharves In each constituency are the same as last year. Chilli wack gets $33,300; Delta, $22,500; Dewdney, $6S,500, and Richmond IIO.OOOj Eighty thousand is revoted for Kingsway through the Municipality of Burnaby. Point Grey gets 110,000 for roads, and Nicomen Island the same amount for dyking; $13,500 Is a subsidy for the Ladner-Woodward ferry. Other Appropriations. The vote of $400,000 on last year's estimates for the Second Narrows bridge Is left off. For bridges generally $450,- •00 is set down, while "for the bridge over the Fraser River at Prince George there will be an appropriation of $150,- 000. . ■- An item in the Land Department appropriations is that for $20,000 for "timber testing and Investigation 0t wood products." An indication that the government intends to continue seeking overseas markets for the B. Description | The British Columbia Record was published in Vancouver, and ran from June 1916 to July 1922. The Record was published every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As the official publication for the Architectural Institute of B.C., the B.C. Builders’ Exchange, and the Building and Construction Industries’ Exchange of B.C., the Record primarily covered news related to building, contracting, engineering, real estate, and industrial finance. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
