C. cago, III. * VICTORIA—Tenders will be received by the Minister of Public Works up to 12 o'clock noon of Tuesday, the 27th day of November, for the erection and completion of a four-room school at South Wellington, in the Newcastle Electoral District, B. C. Plans, specifications, etc., may be seen-at the office of J. Mahony, Government Agent, Court House, Vancouver; S. McB... Smith, Government Agent. Court House, Nanaimo; J. E. Parrott, Secretary of School Board, South Wellington; or the Department of Public Works, Victoria. VICTORIA.—With the summer demand for agricultural labor over, the city is now preparing plans for street improvement work that was postponed early in the year because of the labor shortage. City Engineer Rust has prepared a list of eighteen streets he thinks should receive attention. The total cost of the work will be $7,061. The list of streets has been submitted to the aldermen. They will decide on them Friday. The streets on yesterday's list are: Shelbourne from Haultain to Kings; Kings from Shelbourne to Richmond; Bay-from, Vancouver to Quadra; Jackson from Fiulayson to Tolmie; Forbes from Haultain to Ryan; Belmont from Haultain to Richmond; Here ward from the end of the planking to Pine; Den- man from Belmont to Richmond; Ida from Pembroke to Denman; Hamley from Walton to Arnold; Clara from Oak Bay to Cowan; Cowichan fr.oin Cowan to Quamichan; parts of Cowan from Davie to Richmond; Richmond from Cowan to Quamichan; Wilmer from Cowan to Quamichan; Metchosin from Madison to Quamichan. Ptation, three miles north of Sedro- Woolley, to the old Cokedale mine, it became a certainty that operations on the old Nelson Bennett coal mine will be commenced at once. A few weeks ago men at work in the mine struck a 16-ft. vein of coal and thoroughly developed the fact that their find was not a mere spear, but a body of coal which will keep a good-sized force of miners at work steadily for years. VICTORIA.—When the city council In more optimistic times than the present contemplated a new city hall and submitted a referendum to the citizens on the site of a new building, one of the schemes contemplated the expropriation of the Leeming Brothers', Ltd., property at the rear of the hall and also the Pottery building. The land has continued vacant, having been loaned by the owners for-a Salvation Army wood depot, and then for a market, and is now offered to the city for $50,000. A letter to that effect is now on file at the City Hall, to he considered by the City Council on Monday. The owners offer to take city or Dominion Government bonds for the property. *»*»'i'+'I *■: ♦ 1 ♦ 1 ♦ I +1 ♦ 1 ♦ ^»4^»-M» Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Kamloops w'ith a spur from both the
C.P.R. and Canadian Northern would
mean that many mining properties
now untouched might be developed.
