"Lands,"  upon -which -$565,000 is to be spent this  year, and "agricultuie," upon which  $176,500 will probably be expended, ai e  each given a service to themselves, thus  greatly l educing the '.'miscellaneous"  total.,  < Present conditions have also necessitated more and larger hospitals, the result beini? an unusually large inciease  for hospitals and chanties Last yeai  $16,000 was voted in the way of assistance in the construction of hospitals.  This year about $150,000 will probably  be granted for that puipose. Grants to  refuge homes, aid societies, etc, is increased fiom $19,000 to $80,000.  University of E, C.  Among, the appropriations in this  year's estimates is a conditional one of  $200,000 for the University of British  Columbia. Last yeai's estimate was  $175,000. The appiopriations  provincial normal school, Vancouver.  for roads,  streets,  bridges and   wharves  ~ln each constituency are the same sts  last' year. Chilliwack gets $33,300:  Xk'lta $22,100; Dewdney, $6S,500, and  Richmond $40,000. Eighty thousand is  revoted for Kingsway through the Muni  ' cipality of Buinabv. Point Grey gets  $10,000 for roads, and Nicomen Island  the same amount for dyking; $13,500 is a  subsidy tor the Ladner-Woodward leny.  The vote of $100,000 on last years  estimates for the Second Narrows biidge  is left'oif. For budges generally $150,-  000 i is set down, while for the biidge  over the Fraser River at Prince George  there will be an appiopiiation of $1j0,-  000.>  An item in the Land Department appropriations is that for $20,000 lor  "timber testing and investigation ol  .wood products." An indication that the  government intends to continue seeking  overseas markets for the C.
