Pattullo, Minister of Lands. Comparing the figures for the last six years in connection with timber sales, it will be seen that in 1912 only one sale was recorded as against seventy-eight in 1917 up to date. The table of sales runs as follows: 1912,1 sale; 1913, 1 sale; 1914, 2 sales; 1915, 14 sales; 1916, 17 sales; 1917, 7S sales. The minister points out that the sales this year have not been in any measure for speculative purpose's j but have been applications purely from j operating interests. [ This year's transactions represent 'many millions of feet, while there is every indication of still further enterprise in this locality, an encouraging outlook so far, at least, .as lumbering operations are concerned.
