MISSION CITY PL/CNS NEW $12,000 HOSPITAL MISSION CITY.-—TO fill the dual purpose of .providing much-needed additional hospital accommodation for the district, and also to form a fitting memorial for those Mission City; men who gave their lives overseas in the Empire's cause, a new memorial hospital, to cost $12,000, is planned for Mission City. Aj drive has been started to raise that sum in the town and district and good progress toward that end has already been achieved. PREPARING PLANS FOR STORAGE WAREHOUSE Plans are now being prepared in the offices of Twizell, Birds & Twizell, Metropolitan building, for a municipal storage warehouse to be erected at Summerland to take care of fruit and other shipments. The building will be constructed either of hollow tile or brick and will be 100 by 65 feet in size, three stories in height and of frost proof construction. Plans will be ready for tenders in a short time. NEW 3-STORY BUILDING FOR LOCAL CHINESE A. local Chinese syndicate headed by Hung.'i'oolc'Tong, a wealthy Chinaman, have "taken out a permit for the AWARD CONTRACT 800N ON NEW REGAL THEATRE Announcement is made by Mr. J. R. Muir, local representative of the Canadian FamouB-Lasky Film Corporation, and the Regal Films, Ltd., that tenders are now being received from a number of prominent firms on the revised plans for the projected new Regal theatre to be erected soon in the 800 block Seymour street. The revision of the plans which was made to conform to certain restrictions insisted upon by City Building Inspector Bird, will give considerably more aisle space but will reduce the total (Seating capacity from nearly 3,000 in jthe original plans to 2,300 in the revised plans which are now being tendered on. Otherwise, with the exception of some minor exterior alterations, the structural plans remain the same. Mr. N. L. Nathanson, general man* ager of the Famous-Lasky Film Corporation, and Mr. Thos. W. Lamb, of Toronto, architect of the building, are coming west soon, being ' expected here about Saturday, May 22. They will personally look over the site and the local theatrical situation and it is expected that the general contract for the erection of the big playhouse will be awarded shortly after their arrival. In any event, Mr. Muir expects that work oh the excavation for the foundation will be commenced by June 1, and that the construction .of the theatre will be rushed after that in order to have it ready for the late fall or early winter season. The site has all been cleared and there i's nothing to delay an immediate start on building operations once the contract Is awarded. The new theatre will cost between $500,000 and $600,000 and will have an approached by a covered overhead bridge from: Granville street. He is to start soon on the preparations of the plans which are ihtended to provide additional accommodation for at least 50 beds in addition to new and larger administration quarters. This hospital has ben greatly overcrowded for some time and seriously hampered in its work of caring for the sick and injured from the Comox and northern Vancouver Island district owing to lack of sufficient accommodation. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
