The city engineer explained that earlier in the spring, he had a large list of streets prepared for improvement but these exceeded the year's appropriation for - street .work which was cut to .$85,0C0. Consequently, having to curtail his original programme, Mr. Fellowes explained that he had selected .-a number;*>f leading streets in each, ward, the -improvement or surfacing - of which would do the greatest benefit to that particular district. These be recommended to be passed so that the work could be got in hand at once. The total amount involved in the entire list for hard-surfacing ■ is $71,927, while the estipate for levelling and trimming up the streets to- take- the hard-surfacing is approxi mately $6,703.60, making a total for this road work of $78,630. The engineer's recommendation was approved and the work authorized to be proceeded with. ..'lif if i\V,-. C",F.
