Did you ever notice that 95 per
cent, of the big successful firms are
firms who advertise?, They figure advertising as an investment, not an expense. The secret of advertising is
the selection of a medium whicl
reaches those people who are or wi!
be the most likely "purchasers ,0
vour product." If you are. in the build
ing supply or machinery line don't s<
le.et a moving picture publication ii
which to do your advertising. Because of the fact that the RECORD "is
the only paper published in the province devoted exclusively to the contracting business it is read by practically every one you would like tc
sell your products to. Your ad. where
Hiey will see it will put a capital C
on Yo:rr cash.

Council Monday in relation to the grant being made to the institution from the1 provincial revenue for the coming tweh e months. The grant to be made is one J of $175,000, which will constitute practically the whole revenue of the University. It' was pointed out by the governors-that it would be very difficult to make anything of the University with such a small amount. While unable to hold out any propect of any increase- the ministers received the deputation very sympathetically and promised to consider the repre&enta*'- tions made1 to them." TRAIL—Building permits issued by H. Ferguson, the Trail building inspector, for the month of April, would seem to show that activity in this line will again be pronounced this year— as it was in 1916. For the last month they totaL 23 permits, with' a value given at $31,595. While the great majority of the permits were for small residences, additions or improvements of various kinds, including garages,' there were two permits that naturally helped to swell the total for the month. One of these was for the new building of the Trail Opera House Co. Ltd., for $12,000, on which the excavation has been completed and the concrete foundations about made ready for the superstructure by Rod McDonald, the contractor. The largest permit was by the manager of the Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood, commonly known, lo'cally as the Doukhobors. This was estimated at $14,000 and was taken out for the erection of a brick structure on Bay Ave., near the present frame office of the concern. This building will be three stories high with a full basement, the ground area being 60x100 feet. The lower floor of the building will be used for business purposes by the community, while the two upper floors will^be arranged in the form of offices and living apartments and rooms. It will be the highest brick building yet erected in Trail. TELEPHONE DATA i HEW INSTALLATIONS MAY 4, 1917 " * Cambie Tailors '& Cleaneis, 303' Cambie * ... ......
