Under the circumstances the hint conveyed by the builder, in regard to exterior painting should not be overlooked by those who have painting to do. Why not have it done right now when supplies and men are plentiful? They may not be later on in the summer. The railway and power line should be in operation by the summer. The new mill has a capacity of 2,000 tons dailj', and is nearly completed. " The Good Food Restaurants" WHY DELAY PAINTING? IT CAN BE DONE NOW Tinder the stress of keen demand «nd the necessity of time saving many .hitherto ultra-conservative customs in connection with the building trade 3iave been shattered and thrown into the discard, of late. And chief, among these is a new realization of the fact that as far as Vancouver's climate is concerned, it is not necessary to wait lor the advanced months of spring or early summer to do exterior house painting. In fact,-for anyone who is planning house painting, there is no time like the present, for with over a ■'..'.month of daily bright sunshine, the "wood is almost as dry as midsummer and in ideal condition to take paint to advantage. . This applies to any kind ■of outdoor construction, -new or old, and the owner who has neglected his ■ exterior painting during the war years ,. -would do well to get the painters busy 1- ;at once, for he may find that when the spring and summer rush of construction gets really under way, he may not /fee able to secure painters as readily as at present. ■•"' ■'»'■". 'Builders and contractors resident in §the effete east, still snow-bound in the grip of winter, can perhaps scarcely realize- the advantages which Pacific coast builders enjoy in the matter of All-the-year round construction. Some of these eastern builders will perhaps take with the proverbial grain of salt, the statement that scores of new ■houses as well asv dozens of old ones have been given an exterior coat of T>aint during the past month and th& this painting was done under almost ideal conditions. A couple of weeks ago painters had to make some slight allowanuces for slight frosts at night hut of late even that drawback has practically disappeared. As there has heen no rain .for over a month now— "-upto the time of writing-—exterior -•woodwork is in ideal condition to receive oil and pigment. All through the winter months house construction went on steadily in Vancouver—as the building records show •—and in the matter of exterior painting there has been practically no delay in waiting for suitable drying "weather. It is true that the abnormally fine weather during February 3;as enabled many a contractor to finish a abuse-building job ahead of time, for it was expected that a few days -would have to be allowed for. But instead, not a single day lias been lost, and one of the greatest savings in time has been the manner in which exterior painting has progressed with- $2,000,000 FOR PUBLIC WORKS EDMONTON—About $2,000,000 will be included in the budget of the Public Works Department, it is expected, for new buildings and bridges in. different parts of the Province during the coming year.
