But of late, home owners, in planning their .dwellings, have recognized the manfold advantages of this ultra-modern touch and hardwood floors for at least the dining room, living-room and hall has come to he as regular a thing in the specifications as the fireplace, without nvhich no house is considered complete as a real home. The housewife, to whose practical ideas in home construction and designing efficiency the majority of architects are at all times willing to bear tribute, have been a .large factor in the demand for hardwood floors. Under the. circumstances it is little wonder that the laying of hardwood floors has developed into an important special adjunct of the huilding trade and is; fast assuming considerable proportions.- ' Practically every up-to-date show window in the business "section of the city is in itself a "silent salesman" lor hardwood floors, for., astute merchants have long ago realized that for a practical and attractive flooring for their show windows there is nothing to beat a neatly-inlaid combination of several of the popular hardwoods, such as white oak, black oak, teak, mahogany or Australian gum-wood. And after all, the additional cost of a hardwood floor is a mere bagatelle ■as compared with the lasting economy at gives to any home, not only where the living room or dining room is continually in use, but also in other economies which can be effected, such as smaller floor rugs being needed and a much smaller cost of upkeep to have the floor in good condition all the time.
