NELSOX....MANAG1XG EDITOR VICTORIA—It is understood that the government after a reconsideration of the tax as applied to the mining industry, is to make some alterations under which the industry will not suffer so greatly as various members of the legislature have claimed. The subject of changes are to be before the caucus this week, according to report, and members from the mining districts and others who have studied the situation, will urge that more relief than is contemplated be given the industry. During the 1917 session an amendment to, the Taxation Act was passed ivhich, according to the intepretation of the government, assesses the gross income 10 per ■ cent. This is in addition to 2 per cent, tax on the assessed value of all . ores mined, •which, when it was passed in 1911, ■was declared to be in substitution of all taxes on land and personal property used in ' or the income derived from the working of the mine.
