Leslie W. Pearson, manager of the Little Giant Motor Truck Company, Granville at Pacific street, the most cheerful news that he has had for some time reached him on Friday in the shape of telegram from the factory in Chicago announcing that ten carloads of trucks of various sizes were being shipped at once. ANOTHER MAXWELL TRUCK ACHIEVEMENT. Xeffotiatlng tlw^.erriflc incline^ of -Mount Wilson, California, with the greatest ease, the famous Maxwell, A. A. A. truck recently made a new record for durability, fuel economy and pulling power under conditions as severe as any that might be imposed in Southern California. With five men riding on the truck, tho famous Maxwell started up the nine-mile grind, and the driver, easing into second speed, fastened his gaze on the summit—just at that' moment so far as he was concerned, the, roof of the world. Passing through the upper gate, at the end of the run it was found that no water had been added during the trip nor had the water boiled once despite the heavy, up-hill strain. Gasoline consumption was also5 remarkably low, but two gallons and one quart being used. This achievement marks another high mark in the life of this sturdy Maxwell. The climb was made after it had travelled more than, 8,000 miles during which time no repairs of any kind had been made. The head had never been off the motor nor had any parts been replaced at any time since the truck left the Detroit factory. • This truck—the only one in the world possessed of a record for performance under A. A. A. sanction—■ has been a source of the greatest interest on the Pacific Coast. Engineers frointall over that section have made special trips to inspect its mechanism which is, as the' A. A. A. rules require, absolutely stock in every particular. Mr. Cruise of the local agency states this is not all that will be heard from these "sturdy little trucks. ■ ed out that one man driving a five-ton truck oari haul to mark**, more than three men with wagons and cover three times, the distance in a given time. Use of the truck would therefore' release eight men and sixteen horses to continue work on the farm. The department has as.sured the highways transport committee, of the council of national defense of its co-operation in the development of rural motor exjpress lines as an aid in solving the farm labor shortage. ' MATTER OF DISPLAY FARMERS URGED TO USE MOTOR EXPRESS U. S. Department of Labor Hopes to Release Labor for Greater Food Production. , The United States department of labor in a public announcement, has urged farmers to make use of rural motor express lines to release labor for greater production of foods.
