GRANT SMITH YARD  GETS NEW ORDERS  Aberdeen, Wn.-Two additional vessels of the Ferris type are to be built  at the' Grant Smith-Porter yards, making ten ships in all of this class that  have been contracted for by the government at these yards. PUGET SOUND TO LAUNCH  THIRTY SHIPS ON JULY 4  Seattle, Wn.—Big ship launching  "bee" planned by shipyards-of the  Pacific Northwest for the Fourth of  July is expected to send at least thirty  steel and wooden vessels into the  water in one day. Practically every  yard in Seattle promised to slip a vessel into the water on that day.  That means fourteen wooden vessels  will be launched here for the government. Three of the four steel yards  will launch vessels. The Todd plant  at Tacoma probably will launch one  steel vessel:  British Columbia Yards  Following- is a list of the-Shipbuilding  companies of British Columbia now actively engaged in ship construction or  recently organized:  Steel Shipbuilding Plants. The province of B. C. will give a  bonus of $3 a ton upon all pig-iron  manufactured from B. C. ore, $1.50  upon that made here from foreign ore.  Eleven American mines have sent  about 3,000 tons of ore and concentrates to Tlail smelter in 191S thus  far.  One now shipper for 191S is on,the  weely cVe receipt list at Trail pow—  the Payne lease, of Sandon, with 23  tons.  Friday; June 14th, is the date of the  meeting of the Independent Mine Operators' Association,  called   by President Chas. F. Caldwell.    He hopes to  have   Hon.   Martin   Burrell   and  Hon.  Wm. Sloan at the meeting.  , C. E. Cartwright, C.E., of Vancouver,  has made one of the most important  discoveries of industrial minerals ever  made in British Columbia.    This is a  large body of magnesite.   The location  is at Clinton'.  Hauling of ore from the Big Sioux  mine in the Aspen Grove to Merritt is  now under way, two four-horse teams j  being employed,' each team drawing  three tons and making a round trip  every two days.  An international mining convention  is to be held at Revelstoke on July 8,  9 and 10, representing the mining men  of  Western   Canada  and* the  United  States.    The   three  days   programme  comprises* business, , educational .'and  entertainment  features . and^.the'" ^'convention executive has adopted the"significant phrase "Dig In" as the convention watchword.' Wn.—Big "ship launching  "bee" planned , by shipyards'- of the  Pacific Northwest for the Fourth of  July is expected to send at least thirty  steel and wooden vessels into the  water in one day. Practically every  yard in Seattle promised to slip a vessel into the water on that day.  That means fourteen wooden vessels  will'be launched here for the government. C. will give a  bonus of $3 a ton upon all pig-iron  manufactured from B. C. ore, $1.50  upon that made here from foreign ore.  Eleven American mines have sent  about 3,000 tons of ore and concentrates to Trail smelter in 191S thus  far.  One new shipper for 191S is on.the  weely ore receipt list at Trail now—  tjlie Payne lease, of Sandon, with 23  tons.  Friday; June 14th, is the date of the  meeting of the Independent Mine Operators' Association, called by President Chas. F. Caldwell. He hopes to  have Hon. Martin Burrell and Hon.  Wm. Sloan at the meeting.  , C. E. Cartwright, C.E., of Vancouver,  has made one of the most important  discoveries of industrial minerals ever  made in British Columbia. This is a  large body of magnosite. The location  is at Clinton'.  Hauling of ore from the Big Sioux  mine in the Aspen Grove to Merritt is  now under way, two four-horse teams  being employed, each team drawing  three tons and making a round trip  every two days.  An international mining convention  is to be held at Revelstoke on July 8,  9 and 10, representing the mining men  of Western Canada and the United  States.
