This fellow is to tlie truck driver what the roundsman is to a police platoon. Mounted on a motorcycle, lie covers the commercial districts of the city cooperating with the drivers of the Federal trucks put into service by the Federal Motor Truck Company. It is the plan of this company's St. Louis distributor, Allan Baker. When the "Minute Man" starts out in the morning he makes it his duty to say a friendly "Howdy" to each Federal-driver he meets. If his attuned ear spots a bit of needed adjustment in the driver's motor, he helps make the adjustment or instructs the driver in his efforts. Tn fact, St. Louis Federal drivers are getting to be such a crack corps that Baker's "Minute Man" threatens to form a motor truck company for overseas service. ' "' Emil Hallman, of the Reo Motor Car Under his direction they have in- Agency, Ltd., has returned from a short < . i i creased the efficiency of their .vehicles holiday trip to San Francisco. to a large percentage. These drivers, witli the proper education, have learned that many fair loads can be hauled with great satisfaction, while a few of over-capacity will likely cause trouble to develop later on. The "Minute Man" has done more to solve the overloading problem than other single idea, declares Mr. Baker. The second phase of this service which has made itself invaluable to owner and driver is the check upon the employees. The fellow with the chronic habit of abusing a truck is soon spotted and his attitude reported to the owner. The drivers are strictly in accord with the system, for they find that the "Minute Man's" reports get them deserved credit- Oftentimes.this results in a raise in pay. In short, the Federal truck "Minute Man" has become a sort of labor trust. His O. K. will always get a driver a good job. H. J. Tucker, 833 Pender St. W., is the local distributor for' the Federal truck. Date Issued | 1918-06-19 |
Description | The British Columbia Record was published in Vancouver, and ran from June 1916 to July 1922. The Record was published every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As the official publication for the Architectural Institute of B.C., the B.C. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
