VAXCOUVEIt7-At<the annual meet ^ng of the-'Provincial King's Daughters of British Columbia, which was held Friday,, it was* decided to immediately rebuild v the King's Daughters Hospital at Duncan which was' partially destroyed by fire during March of this year. . r, - , * SUMMERJLAND —. Of the several building contractors who tendered on the new Bank of Montreal'building, a local contractor, Bert Harvey, put in the lowest bid, and has been awarded the contract. It is understood that the new building-, wilf cost about nine thousand dollars. Work on the foundation will begin as soon as possible. NELSON—A power plant to fill the needs of the Utioa and the Jackson Basin Mines; Limited, is to be constructed jointly by the two concerns, according to Charles F. Caldwell, of Kaslo, one of the chief owners of the Jackson Basin Company. 1 he plant is to be built on Twelve the Prince Rupert yards and produce Alile creoK, where there Is ample liow;steel ships for delivery by the fall ot of water for power development, j 19 IS, the board would be pleased to Equipment to be installed will be suf- receive proposals^from them. Matsua" Company,-Limited, a Seattle concern, is registered as an extra-provincial company, with its office for the province .in Vancouver, and George E. ITcusser as its attorney. PRINCE RUPERT—George Gray of Prince Rupert wrote recently to the Rt Hon. Lloyd-George,, drawing to his attention the fact of a modern drydock and shipbuilding' plant in Prince Rupert standing idle. Mr. Gray received a reply to the effect that-the communication would have the attention of the British Prime Minister. Since then he has heard from Sir Joseph Flavelle, chairman of the' Munitions Board, Ottawa/saying his letter to the Prime Minister had been forwarded to the board. Mr. Flavelle wrote that if Mr. Gray knew of any responsible firms which could make use of all the power they need for the operation of. concentrators .and power drills. While the, Utica at present has a 100-horsepower plant It is badly handicapped in low water periods for lack of sufficient power, .a condition which would be aggravated when a concentrator is constructed. A concentrator is to be constructed at tho Jackson Basin property and Air. Caldwell expects it to be in operation by next fall. Provision of power for drills ' will enable the company to drive 250 to 260 feet a month where at present only one shift a day can be'worked on account of bad air and the time it takes for- smoke to disperse after blasts. The Jackson Basin Company has been formed to take over the Bell, Sunset, Echo and Alameda groups of claims. All these groups have good shipping records but have been lying idle for .10 or 12 years until bonded recently by a syndicate composed of Voiney D. Williamson, A. L. White, and C. F. Caldwell. ! VICTORIA—Local capital is interested in tlte Nit-i-nat Copper Alines. Limited .(NomPersonal 'Liability), which has been incorporated under the provincial laws. The incorporators are P. J. Pierce, Andrew Wright and John H. Dickie. The capital is' fixed at $1,500,000 In one-dollar shares, and the head office of the company will be in this city. The'claims which are held or'to be acquired by the company are at the west end of Cowichan Uike, and are believed to be rich in copper ore. li is understood that tho company will commence active development of the property. A. D. Alacfarlane is acting as counsel for the new concern. Another mining company, which was incorporated last week was the Tula- meen Coal Company, Limited (Non- personal Liability), which will have a share capital of $300,000. It headquarters will be in Vancouver and' it will develop mineral claims near Tula- nieen in the Similkameen district. CANADIAN NORTHWEST STEEL COT, Ltd. ralrmont 3396 and 2397 Vancouver, B. C.
