This will be at least three week's from now.- It is not certain that work will start then. ^ BURNABY—The boajd of -works met in special session Wednesday morning and opened the tenders for tlie work of surfacing the Barnet road. These tenders, four in number, were scrutinized and then ordered to be sent to the department of Public Works at Victoria. As the govern- ment is paying the money for tlie work fore" awarded the contract. Contract Not Let. - With regard to the implement shed [ at Garbally Road, Parfitt Brothers were the lowest tenderers, but the Council did not award" the contract pending some settlement with regard to salaries, holding the view that the Council should suspend action till it is known where the necessary money is forthcoming for the proposed increases in salary. SOUTH VANCOUVER—It has not been decided as yet whether tenders will be called for the Fraser St. pavement: The engineer stated yesterday that he would go over the ground today in order to ascertain if it would be'advisable for the municipality to do the -work'or''have.it done by contract. The question will be settled by Monday or. Tuesdajv ■ In any event tenders will be called for the top coating. VANCOUVER—m Wednesday's issue of the Record the address of F. M. Dickey, who is preparing the plans for the two-story garage building to, be erected, for the Independent Van '&: Storage Co. was" given as 407 Hastings St. \V.,' whereas it should have been 751 Granville* St. In connection''■ with the above project Mr. Dickey reports that it will be two or three "week's before he is ready to receive.tenders. As previously announced the building will be erected on the south west corner of Homer and Nelson Sts and will be of concrete and brick construction, 40x120 , I feet. I | ... . I.!..-*- ILA.A.J**' The plans include an extra public ward and other improvements which will make the handling of stretcher cases between the old and new'buildings much'easier than, formerly. The Island Building Co., Duncan, has the contract for the building at $5,S08.10. This is an increase of $807.10 over the figure at which the firm tendered when contracts were called for by the building committee of the board. Officers of the Provincial executive would not consent to the award of the contract when the building committee desired to make it and get ahead with the work. It was preferred to have the matter stand over until the Provincial order had met in Vancouver. The increased price of $807.10-represents the difference in the value of materials, etc., and also the amount which would have been saved had the contract been awarded when the building committee of the hospital board desired to award it. The plumbing contract has been awarded to Mr. J. L. Hird, Duncan. It amounts to $l,r>30. The electric wiring and fittings contract has not yet been awarded. Douglas James is the architect. .Did you ever notice that 05 per
cent, of tlie big successful firms are
firms who advertise? They figure advertising as an investment not an expense. The secret of advertising is
the selection of a medium wliicr
reaches those people who are or wil
be the most likely "purchasers o
vour product." If you are in the build
ing supply or machinery line don't sc
lect a moving picture publication ii
which to do your advertising. Because of the fact that the RECORD is
tfie only paper published in the province devoted exclusively to the contracting business it is read by practically every cue you would like to
sell your products to. Your ad. where
they will see it will put. a capital C
on yoi"' cash.
