C. .-X 7 -Tf °Y?& Yfj-v • *£, ' h* hi NORTH VANCOUVER—Plans are being prepared jointly by the districts of North and West Vancouver for a Howe Truss bridge which is to span the Capilano River at the site of the old wooden bridge. The now bridge proper will be about 120 feet in length, or 60 feet shorter than the old bridge. The difference in length-will, be made up by lengthening the approach trcstlework on the west side of the river. It will be a combined vehicular traffic and foot bridge, limited to a certain carrying capacity.* The cost is estimated at $8,000, to be borne jointly by the municipalities. It has not been decided whether the work will be done by contract or clay labor, according to Information received from the district engineer's office yesterday. It was stated, however, that this may be decided at the meeting of tho council to be hold Thursday. morning when the shingle weavers went on strike for the eight-hour day and the mills were also largely deserted by the Chinese packers. Mr. Robert McNair, president of the Shingle Men's Association, declared yesterday there was no intention whatever of giving the eight- hour, day, especially at a time like this when industries should be speeding up instead of cutting the working day down.
