Over the entire coast area, from East Sooke to Quatsino Sound, good men who understand the mining business are making things hum along productive lines, and the district will rapidlyr increase its producing facilities as a result. ' The industry seems to have taken on a new lease of life. The Phelps-Dodge interests have taken bonds on the Fraser group. The Ladysmith people have taken a bond on the Willow Grouse. If this solving of the transportation problem is" to become a reality and the burden taken from the -railroad, the motor trucks to be used should at least be built sturdy enough to withstand the heavy demands made upon them for many years. An unusual record of a truck's performance is vouched for by H. J. Tucker, distributor of the Federal motor truck for British Columbia. One of the first 1-ton motor trucks put.out »by the Federal Motor Company was purchased by J.t F. Bouskill, hauling contractor of this city, for the purpose of hauling coal and for the first three years the truck, hauled 3-ton loads of gravel regularly. . .During the six years that" this 1-ton Federal has been on the job, always doing its duty and operating at a vefry low cost, it was driven by Mr. Bouskill from Portland to Detroit, Mich., and from Detroit back to Vancouver, covering the cross continent trip twice without the least bit ' of trouble. Throughout these journeys the sturdy little Federal climbed grades ranging up to 37 1-2 per cent, and carried a load both ways. - During the past six- months the truck has been hauling 2-ton loads of wood and is performing excellent satisfaction.
