Bay. 77 SEATTLE—After the signing of.the I papers here Saturday by Hon. John j Oliver, which releases the contrac- i tors, Messrs. Foley, Welsh & Stewart, from their obligation to complete the Pacific Great Eastern railway in Brit- I ish Columbia, the provincial minister I of railways declared that the govern- I ment will carry out the original plans I as soon as labor and material are obtained. He stated that the completion of the line will probably take two or three years more on account of the difficulty of obtaining funds and necessary labor. In addition to the trackage already laid, he said there are about 60 miles of rails on the ground ready to be put in place. At the invitation of Mr. Oliver, P. Welsh, a member of the contracting firm, will go to Victoria to consult and advise with officials of the province in regard to the completion of the line, and on other matters connected with the big enterprise. Mr. Welsh was present at the meeting at which the agreement was signed. TENDERS FOR SUPPLIES. The undersigned will receive tenders up till 12 o'clock noon, March 6th next, for the supply of,the following goods for the term of one year from TENDERS WANTED FOR HEATING AND VENTILATING EQUIPMENT; Parl:ament Buildings, Ottawa., Sealed tenders will be received by Each .. <- • - by an accepted cheque on a chartered bank payable to the order, of the Minister of Public Works for a sum not less than five per cent. (5%-) of the amount of the tender, which will be forfeited if the parties tendering decline to enter into a contract when called upon to do so. If the tender is not accepted the cheque will be returned. If the tender is accepted an additional cheque for a sum equivalent to five per cent. (5%) of .the amount of the tender must be deposited before the contract is signed. The total security will be forfeited if the contractor fails to complete the work contracted for. ' Payments will be made monthly and will not exceed in the aggregate ninety per cent. (90%) of the value of the, labor and materials furnished and set in place. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
