VICTORIA—At the Ogden Point assembly plant a start has been made in assembling the engines aboard the steamer War Nootka, product of the Western Canada Shipyards, Ltd., of Vancouver, and incidentally the second of the twenty-seven wooden vessels building on this coast under the government programme to be turned over to the Imperial Munitions Board plant by the contractors. At the present time 150 workmen are employed at the assembly plant. VICTORIA—The Victoria Whaling Company has absorbed the Northern Pacific Sea Portage Company of Seattle, including the fleet of that concern -which consists of the three steamers TJnimak, Kodiak and Tankynak and the 3800-ton barge Fresno. The whaling plant of the latter company at the Aleutian islands has also, changed hands in the deal. A cold storage plant has been opened by the Victoria Whaling company at Bay City, Washington, and frozen whale meat will be sent all over the United States this year. As the official publication for the Architectural Institute of B.C., the B.C. Builders’ Exchange, and the Building and Construction Industries’ Exchange of B.C., the Record primarily covered news related to building, contracting, engineering, real estate, and industrial finance. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
